the cooperation of Deutschlandradio Kultur and radio aporee continues with a project of german artist collective RIMINI PROTOKOLL. the project starts on May 17, 2011.

Rimini Protokoll haul the Stasi files out of the archives and into the
city's present: About a hundred people in Berlin's Mitte district are
surveyed and for the microphone recollect or reconstruct observations of
the sites where the misdeeds were perpetrated. A strange picture-puzzle
is created for the users, who have the everyday life familiar to us now
in view and original recordings from that time in their ears.

Tuned City Tallinn - Sonic Landmarks: a sonic path through Tallinn

The radio aporee workshop in Tallinn, April 2011, introduces the new project miniatures for mobiles, a platform for the creation of space-based audio works. The
workshop consists of lectures about the conceptual and technical background, and practical exercises as well as sonic explorations within the Tallinn area. The workshop aims to instruct participants in how to use the authoring tools provided by radio aporee, and ideally would result in an audible miniature for mobile media, to experience by listeners now and in future.

the plan is to build a cheap but effective windscreen (not exactly stealth, esp. in summer... ;) for lapel mics (e.g. DPA4060 etc.) in binaural setup. material so far: 2 plastic kitchen sieves, rubber band, foam rubber, fake fur, parts of an old headphone. costs will be around 2-3 euro alltogether. pictures with fur coming soon. --u

some years ago, i've started to explore the so called augmented realities (is there another?) created by the superposition and intersection of physical space with media and information right at your current location. for companies and consumers, this translates to improved shopping. i'm skeptical about the new hype and the "mobile revolution", and since i prefer to create and manage my own spaces and realities as far as possible, i decided to dig into the ideas and techniques behind the touch screen. so here's my first "app" for android based phones:
it finds and plays sounds from the aporee maps near you, and it's a receiver for the aporee streaming radio. but the feature i like most is the walkman mode. while walking, it always pulls the nearest sounds around you from the aporee maps and crossfades them into a continuous sound play, which naturally mixes with the actual sounds reaching your ear along your promenade. this can be a very intense listening experience, depending on where you are and what's on the map in that particular area. in the near future, i'll try an experimental spatial radio, combining sounds and narratives. it slowly goes into the direction of a radio i'd really like to listen to. but how to break the 100% individualistic approach? what can others hear while you are browsing your personal psycho-geography? do you have an idea? --u

this strong looking guy comes out of the inexplorable depth of a basement at Deutschlandradio Kultur. reminds you on Metropolis by Fritz Lang? anyway. it's a microphone and used for true binaural recordings at Alexanderplatz Berlin, in a cooperation of Dradio and radio aporee. together with LIGNA, a group of performance artists from Hamburg, we start to explore the possibilities of geolocated sounds, location based listening and performative practices in public space. the project starts in september, and will be continued in 2011. stay tuned... --u

sometimes during the last 2 days, while listening to and organizing the incoming sounds for the WLD, it turned into a radiophonic experience: (a)live, present, connecting. 9h material so far, i think this is a good start.

since yesterday, various sounds dedicated to the WLD have arrived at the radio aporee soundmap. while the first idea was to get a sound snapshot from that particular day, i've also included the ones sent earlier, since some may not be able to record and upload just today (which, besides, lasts 48 hours until it's gone into the past...). dedication vs. definition...
